Curtiss P-40B Warhawk - Trumpeter

No WW II aircraft collection is complete without an example of a P-40 from the "Flying Tigers" of the American Volunteers Group with their impressive shark mouth painting. There are some original colour photos available on the internet that show the DuPont equivalents of the RAF camouflage colours, for which they were initially intended. These colours faded quickly, giving room for creative weathering.

I have had Trumpeter´s P-40B kit lying in my stash for ages, long before Airfix re-tooled theirs in 2016. The kit is acceptable in terms of fit and accuracy despite some flaws, but the cockpit is a disaster. Far too shallow, it cannot even be used for the spare box. I replaced it with an Aries cockpit that would only fit after heavy modifications. Aside from that and the decal sheet, the rest was built OOB. The model displays the famous "68" flown by American ace Charles "Chuck" Older.
