If you have found these pages, you are likely interested in plastic scale modelling.
As you may have guessed from the name of this site, this blog is fully dedicated
to static aircraft model kits in 1/48 scale.

Like many other fellow modellers, I started my modelling career somewhere in the 70ties
at the age of about 7.
I remember my first kit to be a 1/72 Matchbox Spitfire. Turning into a young adult,
my interests in modelling paused due to other priorities such as job and family.
But I never really quit modelling through the decades, building a kit here and there in
various scales and on different topics, while always keeping an eye on market evolution.
I returned to the hobby a few years ago more intensely,
focussing exclusively on aircraft kits in 1/48 scale of WW2 area.

The idea of running a blog emerged when I started to use relevant internet sites more frequently as a source of information. Although not actively posting on modelling blogs, I often visit them. Next to excellent modelling, I also came across quite some nonsense or answers to questions from novices that left me headshaking. Hence, this blog will aim to provide some guidance to novices and returnees with focus on above subject – simply because I am most familiar with it.

What you will find here

  • As mentioned, a section will be dedicated to novices and restarters. A start into the hobby can be overwhelming due to the huge amount of available tools, kits and aftermarket items. I will try to give some hints and advice on how and where to start, and to what is needed and what isn’t. If I can make a small contribution to youth development, this blog is already worth the effort.

  • Another section will be more specific to paint and modelling techniques. I like the approach of using old school techniques with modern tools. An overview of modelling brands is also intended.

  • I will also attempt to write on subjects that are not related to pure modelling, such as historical backgrounds, modelling history, its development through the decades and modelling philosophy.

  • Finally, I will of course display my own built kits.

What you will not find here

  • Any model kit that does not qualify as an airplane and is in a scale other than 1/48. I found this scale to be the best compromise of size, buildability and detailing. Also, the vast majority will be warbirds of WW2. However, as a few modern jet kits have found their way into my stash, they may appear here as well. “Modern” in this context means anything before 1990.

  • Also, I will not do any kit reviews. There are some excellent dedicated websites out there for this purpose. The same applies to build logs, which you are more likely to find on relevant modelling forums.

  • Finally, as I do not have commercial interests you won’t find any trading or selling facilities. I might go for affiliate marketing or advertising just to cover this blog’s costs, keeping the latter to a minimum and depending on how this blog evolves.

I am always open to comments, feedback, constructive criticism, ideas for new posts or just for a short hello. Being located in the triangle where France, Germany and Switzerland meet, feel free to contact me in English or any of the local languages.

And now, have fun on these pages!

Patrick
